Was it all a LIE?
Today marks International
Mother's Day.
Every 9th of May we get to celebrate all our
mothers. No human would claim to come through any other way apart from through a
mother who gave birth to her.
There are however those who live with their adoptive parents, in the streets or children's
homes. Either way, there will always be someone who stands in as a mum. It
could be your adoptive mother, someone who offers you shelter and basic needs,
gives you school fees, or ensures you have a decent livelihood.
We are living in a digital world where some
people may be living abroad or in the diaspora. The only way they would keep in touch with their mothers would be through video conferencing platforms such as zoom, skype, and
google meets, calls, short message service (SMS's), or when they get a chance to visit them.
All in all, it is important to note that we
should always see the essence of our mothers. Life is short not just because
the COVID-19 pandemic is taking away people at a fast rate but also because we
are not on Earth forever.
The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was passed
by the National Assembly but what does that mean for our mothers? The BBI bill
initiators insist that it contains good things for all of us but have our
mothers and Kenyans generally taken time to read what it contains. It is high
time that even as we celebrate our mother's young or old, that we try our best
and enlighten especially those mothers and parents in the grassroots what these
bills will do for us.
A lot of positive things are spoken of for the
youth when it comes to adding more money to the counties and not taxing young
people who start businesses for the first seven years. As for upcoming leaders
or even those
who have leadership positions in our society, homes, schools, churches, and other
religious congregations, what impact are we making to better the lives of our
mothers?
I think of my mum who is aged, a retiree, and a commercial
farmer, it
is very hard to give back
to her what
she gave me. But what is that little thing I could to impact her life?
Is it championing for better healthcare, listening in as a common mwananchi about what the leaders are saying,
speaking out our views about them via digital spaces such as a YouTube channel,
podcast, or blog post?
Let us be the change we want to see in our
mothers. We
should try and do all that we can for our mothers to have better healthcare when
they are giving birth, going through all kinds of treatments, having them have better
pay for their food and commercial crops, voting
in our leaders, or changing the constitution.
Happy Mothers day to all the Mothers in any capacity whether by birth, adoption, or foster
care here in Kenya and across the World.
Blessings to you all and remember to NEVER GIVE
UP.
