Was it all a LIE?
There has been a rise in the uptake of higher education in Kenya. This
is opposed to the past years were only a few people were into academics or went
beyond doing a Master's or a doctor of a philosophy degree. In the past,
someone who had a degree or a master's degree was highly regarded in society.
They used to get such opportunities via scholarships or sponsorships from their
workplace or the institution they previously schooled in.
I listened to Justice Mutua Ph.D. and Kezia Njuguna from the
school of nursing, Daystar University presents a paper during the 1st Day of
the Inaugural Annual Conference and it proves the bright minds we av here in
Kenya in the medical field. It is through such conferences that Kenyans will be
more exposed to more information and be more encouraged to delve into further
education in the line of their profession or educational background.
So where
does this leave Kenya, now that there are many degree holders, more people
enrolling for masters and Ph.D. degree programs? Despite people having academic
papers, the unemployment menace is on the rise and these people with the papers
are the ones that do not get chances to explore their hard-earned skills in
class in the workplace. The Cuban
Doctors? Are they still helping out in our country?
Why did we have to get 53 Cuban doctors to Kenya? Is their stay here audited? Let us be a country that empowers our very own people as long as they have the rightful skills & knowledge to do that which they ought to do. Kenya is going to hold its national elections in August 2020 and these are some of the pertinent issues that politicians in Kenya should be discussing.
We are living in times where there are no job opportunities, not just in Kenya but all over the world. It s time that young people rise to the occasion that there is much more worth in the skills we have than the grades we gain from the courses we have undertaken. Someone who has a bachelor's degree in Journalism for example may create a job for himself by taking pictures in a certain nitch as opposed to waiting for a job from a media house.
