Was it all a LIE?
I remember this happening during 2017, before the previous general
elections. I happened to buy
some bananas at a kiosk near my residence, I plucked the bananas I needed and
give the shopkeeper Ksh 40. The shopkeeper could not believe I had given him
the exact cash for the bananas I had plucked from the bunch he had outside his
shop. One banana goes for ten shillings, I took four bananas hence I owed him
40Ksh.
The guy just had to pull out his head of the shop's window and see
exactly how many bananas I had taken in order to give me the paper-bag to carry
the bananas with. What if I took more bananas and gave the shopkeeper less
money? Wouldn't I have taken the shopkeeper to a loss? Especially in such times
of everything being expensive, he would have not forgiven me for denying him
what he deserves.
It looked funny seeing him refuse with the paper-bag but in essence
that's the reality we are in right now as Kenyans. The Kenyan economy has just
deteriorated. Things are not as they used to be. The economy is no longer
stable .Everything all over sudden is expensive.
Where exactly are we heading as a country. Majority of Kenyans are now
hurting out of the state of the Economy . The government as well as the opinion
leaders need to work on bringing back the economy to its normal state . Life is
just unbearable as per now.
Now, the economy has detrotriated much more despite getting better
roads and many more people having access of necessary facilities they need.
There is a hike of fuel prices, power bills are on the rise and much more
people do not have an income especially after the outbreak of the COVID-19
pandemic.
Many people were laid off from their jobs, businesses went down, some
industries such as the hospitality one came crashing. Despite things going up
slowly by slowly, life is still hard pressing for many Kenyans. Many more young
people have graduated from Universities while others having gained skills from
TVET institutions.
As we approach the August 9th general elections let all politicians know
that 'Wakenya watakagua'.
Kenyans in this generation are wise and won’t be cheated to vote for
someone because of the small amounts of money they dish out to them, Kenyans
are now looking out for the work the politician has done to the society. This
and many more are some of the questions we have in our minds as we prepare for
the August 9th elections: A lot of changes have been brought to
the village? To the county? To our public facilities?
A lot of roads have been constructed, water and electricity
installations. Every election year, politicians keep promising the unemployed
of employment. Now there is a promise from one side of improving small scale
businesses from the Bottom Up intitative while another says that every family
will be assured of a stipend of Ksh. 6000 fo What difference have you made
since you’re coming in as a leader in your position?
‘Wakenya Watakagua’ come August 9th 2022
