Was it all a LIE?

I call my mum as usual before I sleep on 21st June 2022 and gives me the news that they received their annual bonus earlier than expected. But why Munya? Over the year CS Munya has promised tea farmers of better pay but alas they receive their bonus In June when it is supposed to be released in October as the norm. Is the national elections leading to all of this changes. But why the reduction in the bonus payment.   The dollar seems to rise and as tea is exported, they expected a rise in their payments because the pay is supposedly higher. I really hope the presidential candidates this year are keen on seen this drastic drop in tea farmers bonuses. The current president uhuru Kenyatta should also comment on why the change of the prices, why the bonus came earlier than expected and why the promise from the promise from the government on getting a higher bonus rate was not fulfilled. This is such a bad feeling for all the tea farmers especially now that it is coming ...

Same Old Story Should Come to an End

Kenya is nearing another electioneering year, 2022 where its citizen gets to choose new leaders for the next 5 years. Some political spirants especially those garnering for the top seat of the President of the Republic of Kenya began looking for votes and strategizing on how to win Kenyans to their side as early as 2017. That was the year, the last elections were held.

It is sad because the same people in the elected positions or per se in power in one way or another are the same ones who want to get votes, come the year 2022. Do they ever get work to work? Are the promises they made in 2017 fully accomplished? Until when will Kenyans be taken for granted? Don't we ever get tired f hearing the same story or receiving the same kind of promises from these politicians?

I am happy that a select few Kenyans are getting angry at the system and coming up with movements that speak to these politicians of the reality in the ground. This includes the strugglers movement. I am pretty sure many more are yet to be revealed before we get to the actual date of the 2022 elections. Until when will the youth be promised jobs.

The sad reality is that I will be graduating with my Master's degree on 12th November 2021 from a prestigious University but I remain unemployed. The old people are still enjoying huge sums of money with the retirement age now at 60 years from the previous 55 years. A lot more people are graduating millions of Kenyans who majority are in the youth group have Undergraduates, masters, and PhDs. The majority of these learned people got the papers with the mindset that they will get employed someday perhaps a higher degree would get them there.

The sad reality is that now getting a job in Kenya, you must know the who's and who's. But does everyone do? A lot of corruption revolving around a lot of people wanting to get jobs, stories to do with tribalism, and if you have this much money to be reserved for a certain position. This has become a no-shame kind of transaction in Kenya as many do it openly and it is the young people who will vividly tell you "izo jobs zina wenyewe". Shortlisting of potential employees of a job is now done for formality as the saying goes.

But should that be so? My heart cries for the millions of young people who have taken their time to study and work hard with the effort of their parents to get a good livelihood in the future. It is the youth population that is largely sort after by today's Kenyan politicians. I heard one of them say that "Kura yako, ndiyo itakayo kupa kazi". Is that gospel truth, honestly speaking. Shouldn't my papers and experience be it from an internship or a volunteer position get me a place in a position I apply for?

I have applied for thousands of jobs until now I am hopeful that a door shall be opened for me, I still receive those regret emails but I stay hopeful. I have gone ahead to encourage the youth and those who feel they have done their best and given up via my youtube channel - Terry's World https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC71zWRcJDPgYJSBMDYWayCw to keep their hope alive. I am still not there, but I pray content creation could be some of the ways some politicians could encourage the youth to focus.

The jobs, loans and promises to get opportunities hardly come through for the majority of Kenyans. Our country needs hope, it needs real, honest stuff. Let the CBC curriculum, youth agendas, and parastatals in line with empowering the youth and unemployed be routed towards implementing their original purpose. The empty promises should come to a STOP now. Let us all as Kenyans keep a record of what every aspirant stated before he was voted in and when they are in that position, we need proof of all that he or she promised WANJIKU. I trust am the voice of the Youths and Kenyans who do not have channels to voice their pleas and opinions to the government and aspiring politicians. That CHANGE should start now, and it begins with YOU and ME.
