Was it all a LIE?

Image
I call my mum as usual before I sleep on 21st June 2022 and gives me the news that they received their annual bonus earlier than expected. But why Munya? Over the year CS Munya has promised tea farmers of better pay but alas they receive their bonus In June when it is supposed to be released in October as the norm. Is the national elections leading to all of this changes. But why the reduction in the bonus payment.   The dollar seems to rise and as tea is exported, they expected a rise in their payments because the pay is supposedly higher. I really hope the presidential candidates this year are keen on seen this drastic drop in tea farmers bonuses. The current president uhuru Kenyatta should also comment on why the change of the prices, why the bonus came earlier than expected and why the promise from the promise from the government on getting a higher bonus rate was not fulfilled. This is such a bad feeling for all the tea farmers especially now that it is coming ...

It Has Been A Tough One

Image
Looking back into the year 2020, I can only keep thanking God for getting into another year. Another year that we do not know if anything will look any different, any brighter. 2020 has been tough, tiresome, full of cries, laughter in between it all but all in all I have survived and seen a new year. The past year was a year full of hope and great visions. I was to graduate on 13th November 2020, I never did for reasons that I do not even know how to start. I fell ill, was hospitalized, and thank God I came out strong. I fell in love, gained new friends, and lost some. It is a year I lost my laptop just days to my master's degree defense. Ooh, that was traumatizing. I added pills onto my daily schedule and I thank God am healthy and well.  It is a year that I viewed people who seemed to care not caring at all. Love went down the lane at some point. I was so angry at life, not because of COVID-19, no because what I wished for did not go as planned. And there is where I tru...

Be a Kenyan With A Difference

Image
Everyone wants to be associated with a country, not being from anyone is more of being a nomad. One could be a Kenyan through birth, dual citizenship, or via other means like getting married to a Kenyan. Don't litter, correct your fellow Kenyan when in wrong, avoid plagiarizing, do not be corrupt Kenya is a third world country; we cannot be compared to the United States of America but we are a country that can be proudly spoken of but only Kenyans would make it possible. Kenyans should behave in a way that would sell itself just through how we behave when among others. To start with how do we keep our environment clean? Do you throw away your garbage anywhere in the street or do you lookout for a dustbin and trash it there? It is all up to you. Do not look out for the city council, if they are around there or the police, what about God, is he not watching you every step of your way? Do you bribe just because you drove in the wrong lane? Because you overtook wrongly? Do you bri...

Happy International Youth Day

Image
The world marks Happy International Youth Day on 12th August 2020.  Kenya is a country of the youth according to the 2019 Population and Census results which shows that 75% of the 47.6 million population is under the age of 35. The population aged below 35 years was 35,700,787 (75.1 per cent) in 2019 compared to 30,237,255 (78.3 per cent) in 2009. While the population of 35 years and below population has increased by 5,463,532 from 2009, its proportional share has dropped by 3 percent.  These were the results of the census conducted in August 2019. It is then clear that the majority of Kenyan residents are young people. Most of the young people are unemployed too, with the trading economic website citing that  Unemployment Rate in Kenya remained unchanged at 4.90 percent in the first quarter of 2020 from 4.90 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019.   In Kenya, the unemployment rate measures the number of people actively looking for a job as a percentage of t...

What Leads One To Resign

With the resignation of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi, it brings up the question of what drives one to want to resign. With all the money packages a job comes with. Assured money at the end of the month, allowances, a special treat that comes through a voucher maybe at the end of the year, you can’t just leave a job. Something must have made you hand in that resignation letter. It could be positive or negative. Positive in terms of a better job having come your way, which we commonly term as greener pastures. On the negative side, your work environment might not be pleasing and hence you just want to move away from it. It might be too toxic for you, a lot of disagreements, no harmony and such aspects. It is important to follow your heart though.  For others, the work might be too loaded, you hardly get time for yourself, your school work or family life. After all, life should be balanced.  It is important to do that which makes you happy. You should smile and...

World Youth Skills Day

Image
The World Youth Skills Day is marked every 15th of July. The youth is now a huge chunk of the world's population. Unemployment on the other hand is a song that has been sung over and over again. In my country Kenya, unemployment is a menace that has never been dealt with. A lot of people get to graduate year in year out and increase on those who are looking for jobs after campus.  The World Youth Skills day is a United Nations invented day that aims at spreading awareness of the importance that technical and vocational education, training, and the development of new skills holds in our lives and is relevant to both local and global economies. To all the youths out there, I pray for greater heights, expansion of your territories. Keep in mind - Giving up is not an option, keep striving. #worldyouthskillsday #nevergiveup #keeppressingon #itsnevertoolate

Virusi Safarini

Image
The feature shown yesterday on Citizen TV at 7pm and 9 pm was such an eye opener to all Kenyans and even the government as to how Corona Virus is spreading in the country. The cessation of movement placed by His Excellency the President seems not to have a major impact on Kenyans staying at home and putting in all the measures placed by the government to keep oneself from contracting the deadly Coronavirus. Purity Mwambia, an investigative journalist with Citizen TV did the feature "virusisafarini '' which has stirred a lot of insights especially from Kenyans on Twitter commonly known as K.O.T. It is sad that hardly anyone will  stand up for her, not even the media council of Kenya, by now they should have watched the clip if at all it was not watched by any of their officials yesternight when the feature was aired during news time.  This story was so impactful as you and I as Kenyans should be in the forefront in fighting this pandemic. Corona Virus is real, it kills. It ...

What's With Kibera Slum

Image
Covid-19 Virus has led the government to close down certain counties and in specific certain towns out of how fast the virus is spreading there in. Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera had a lock down and that was extended on 6th June 2020. Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa environs were also closed down and no one could go in and out for a period until the President announced its opening as from 7th June 2020. The puzzle is why is the President not commenting about Kibera and all the infections that have been announced there in.  Is there something that blocks its close down. Yes Kibera slum has a lot of 'panya  routes' of going in and out but besides that what is the matter. The other query is Raila Odinga has hardly said anything about the matter. The last time i checked Raila stated in one of his rallies that Kibera is his bedroom. Majority of his political supporters hail from the slum. Now all is mum, all the questions of how comes Kibera slum is not being closed down from the medi...

CORONA VIRUS AND THE WORRIES IT COMES WITH

This deadly virus that emanated from China has brought a lot of fears across the world. It is so clear to the layman person exactly what it is or how it contracts into a human. This has led people now not to shake hands like they used to, fear anyone who coughs whether slightly or heavily or even sneezes. Amazingly where I attend church, the All Saints cathedral, had sanitize rs at the entrance before anyone accessed the church, one had to sanitize his or her hands. This was impressive to see of how people are cautious of what they may be getting themselves into. Today morning as I was getting myself mandazi from our mandazi vendor, someone happened to cough around that area and a woman happened to tell him to kindly move away or cover your mouth. Now all we can think of is buy hand sanitize rs, it is no longer needed in hospitals now. Let us all be cautious of how we interact with one another,    always clean ones hands if when not about to eat, just always be clean, ...
