Was it all a LIE?

Image
I call my mum as usual before I sleep on 21st June 2022 and gives me the news that they received their annual bonus earlier than expected. But why Munya? Over the year CS Munya has promised tea farmers of better pay but alas they receive their bonus In June when it is supposed to be released in October as the norm. Is the national elections leading to all of this changes. But why the reduction in the bonus payment.   The dollar seems to rise and as tea is exported, they expected a rise in their payments because the pay is supposedly higher. I really hope the presidential candidates this year are keen on seen this drastic drop in tea farmers bonuses. The current president uhuru Kenyatta should also comment on why the change of the prices, why the bonus came earlier than expected and why the promise from the promise from the government on getting a higher bonus rate was not fulfilled. This is such a bad feeling for all the tea farmers especially now that it is coming ...

Lessen the retirement age from 60 years to the previous, 55 years of age.

Image
There are a lot of people who are qualified with skills, academic papers, and work experience required for them to be enrolled in a certain job. However, there are a lot of restrictions when it comes to people having their work experience from being a volunteer, an intern, and working on pro bo no . Why should someone be weighed on if they qualify for a certain position, let alone an entry position if at all the positions are always full?    The age group retiring now at 60 years and others way beyond because they lied while putting in their age are people of generations where jobs were easily accessible. In the past, people used to get out of campus and immediately get a pass into a good formal job in the government or even private organizations.    Things have however changed, there are lots of learned people now. The majority of Kenyans now have acquired a n undergraduate degree but the formal jobs are hard to access. One of the reasons for the in...

Unemployment menace could be the cause to the low turn out of people registering for their voters cards

Image
The voter's card registration ends on 2nd November 2021 with a very low turnout of Kenyans going to register themselves as voters. Voting is a democratic right , no doubt to that . But why are people not just enthusiastic about doing so when the next elections are fast approaching.  Kenya as well as the rest of the world are faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy has gone down and prices of commodities keep escalating. Life has now become so unbearable with people not being able to balance their money among their basic needs. This includes then having a decent living, buying food, getting one's children a quality education, and keeping an amount of money for future purposes (savings).  The meme below is not something to laugh about. It is the high rates of unemployment that lead people to such kinds of acts. This is not just in Kenya but on a global scale....so Mr. Politician why should I take a vote just because you keep repeating your government will provide empl...

Same Old Story Should Come to an End

Image
Kenya is nearing another electioneering year, 2022 where its citizen gets to choose new leaders for the next 5 years. Some political spirants especially those g arne ring for the top seat of the President of the Republic of Kenya began looking for votes and strategizing on how to win Kenyans to their side as early as 2017. That was the year, the last elections were held.  It is sad because the same people in the elected positions or per se in power in one way or another are the same ones who want to get votes , come the year 2022. Do they ever get work to work? Are the promises they made in 2017 fully accomplished? Until when will Kenyans be taken for granted? Don't we ever get tired f hearing the same story or receiving the same kind of promises from these politicians?  I am happy that a select few Kenyans are getting angry at the system and coming up with movements that speak to these politicians of the reality in the ground. This includes the strugglers ...

Pain of Deteriorating Economy

I remember this happening during 2017, before the previous general elections.  I happened to buy some bananas at a kiosk near my residence, I plucked the bananas I needed and give the shopkeeper Ksh 40. The shopkeeper could not believe I had given him the exact cash for the bananas I had plucked from the bunch he had outside his shop. One banana goes for ten shillings, I took four bananas hence I owed him 40Ksh.  The guy just had to pull out his head of the shop's window and see exactly how many bananas I had taken in order to give me the paper-bag to carry the bananas with. What if I took more bananas and gave the shopkeeper less money? Wouldn't I have taken the shopkeeper to a loss? Especially in such times of everything being expensive, he would have not forgiven me for denying him what he deserves. It looked funny seeing him refuse with the paper-bag but in essence that's the reality we are in right now as Kenyans. The Kenyan economy has just deteriorated. Things are...

Does Kenya embrace its Own?

There has been a rise in the uptake of higher education in Kenya. This is opposed to the past years were only a few people were into academics or went beyond doing a Master's or a doctor of a philosophy degree. In the past, someone who had a degree or a master's degree was highly regarded in society. They used to get such opportunities via scholarships or sponsorships from their workplace or the institution they previously schooled in.   I listened to Justice Mutua Ph.D. and Kezia Njuguna from the school of nursing, Daystar University presents a paper during the 1st Day of the Inaugural Annual Conference and it proves the bright minds we av here in Kenya in the medical field. It is through such conferences that Kenyans will be more exposed to more information and be more encouraged to delve into further education in the line of their profession or educational background.   So where does this leave Kenya, now that there are many degree holders, more people enrolli...

Kenyans Fury Over Fuel Prices Hike

Image
Fuel prices have hit a notch higher in Kenya after a series of the prices continually hiking. This move has caused a lot of reactions from Kenyans of all classes, the rich, middle class, and the poor. The price of fuel going up has worsened the state of the economy in Kenya such that those in the public service vehicle (PSV) industry or 'matatu' industry as it is well known are forced to increase commuter prices for the distances they cover. It is such moves that will hard-hit people and give them a hard time living and providing for their families on a day-to-day basis. Motorists and boda boda riders are also having a hard time because they have to dig deeper into their pockets in order to fuel their vehicles and motorbikes.  Kenyans have hence reacted to the situation by having a standstill on roads as a way to protest the pain felt after the fuel prices rose. People who board matatus daily to make their way to and from their workplaces and businesses also protested by fai...

Has the Church Lost Track of its Mandate??

Image
The church in general has in the recent years been talking more about money Something that I was speaking to my mum about that made be hesistant visiting my local church because the pastor placed there was looking for ways to get money via.  This is money for the pastor not to grow the church or the vulnerable mind you. In my local church is a community centre built with the help of my late dad who was an Anglican pastor but more in an administrative position in our province and his friends from the U. K Where he and my fam with the expecting of me because I was born later 🤣🤣.  This is somewhere that the church could bring in great ideas via but its only used by Sunday school for their Sunday fellowships and when there are harambees. In this day and age all pastors are out to get personal cars from the church which is so different from tene  Aint bragging but my dad carried building materials n the contractors using his car and expenses catered by him. Churc...

BBI Night Of Shock

Image
After the court ruling on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) on the night of 13th May 2021, what is the fate of BBI being implemented. Too many hopes, dreams and aspirations from the document, is it all gone? Being a Kenyan Youth who has being affected by the unemployment menace, I wonder who will speak again for us. Inside the BBI document was the aspect of youth who had start up businesses not being taxed for the first 7 years of their business operations. That was such a Great thing to me and am sure to many other Kenyans. The BBI document spoke to Kenyans in one way or another. Some people agreed with it while others were against it. Now the courts have made their ruling after the County governments, Parliament and the Senate Houses passing the BBI Bill. All eyes are now set to the President of Kenya and the former Prime Minister,  Raila Odinga to give their feedback after hearing the court ruling. Will it be all over? Or will the song go on - ' No Body Can St...

KCSE 2020 Results

Image
Today, the CS Education, Prof. Magoha released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2020 results to the country. Such are the times when students are full of anxiety. They look forward to seeing the results of their hard work being replicated in the final exams.  It is a time when parents get ready to celebrate their sons and daughters' win on their KCSE results. Wait a minute did you hear me? The word here is 'WIN'. A fail is never in the mind of people awaiting KCSE results.  Today, the winner of the KCSE 2020 exam was from Murangá high school. I am not sure I had of the last person. No one ever wants to lose but there has to be a winner and a loser at all times.  Why are people so shocked when they get the news that so and so received a lower grade than what is expected. That lower grade can never be appreciated. We do not even take time to pray over it.  But if we're not for God, who got that girl or boy to the last stay of their h...

Happy International Mothers Day

Image
Happy International Mothers Day   9th May 2021 Today marks International Mother's Day. Every 9th of May we get to celebrate all our mothers. No human would claim to come through any other way apart from through a mother who gave birth to her .  There are however those who live with their adoptive parents, in the streets or children's homes. Either way, there will always be someone who stands in as a mum. It could be your adoptive mother, someone who offers you shelter and basic needs, gives you school fees, or ensures you have a decent livelihood.  We are living in a digital world where some people may be living abroad or in the diaspora. The only way they would keep in touch with their mothers would be through video conferencing platforms such as zoom, skype, and google meets, calls, short message service (SMS's), or when they get a chance to visit them.  All in all, it is important to note that we should always see the essence of our...

Keep Doing It

Image
This is one of my published commentaries that I did not know was published. I happened to see it and a couple of others after typing my name on Google. I started sending in commentaries to editors of newspapers in 2009 when I joined campus for my certificate course. Then I used to keep track on if the commentaries were published and those that were I cut out from newspapers or photocopied the page. With technology advancement, I now can look through newspapers on the online space. I think because I have been so busy writing articles that U get paid for, I miss out on checking the papers. I am set to graduate for my masters degree in communication in November, 2021. The transition from Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate and now masters level has sharpened. I have kept writing and have a personal blog as well -  https://lnkd.in/dKJcAHi . I write this to encourage YOU and YOU that there is hope. Keep doing that which you love. Despite not having my commentaries published once ...

Reminiscing on my Good Old Writing Skills and How Far I have come

Image
I began writing in 2009. This was a trial moment and I was not sure if what I wrote was good enough. I had just joined college for a Certificate course in Mass Communication at The Multimedia University of Kenya. I used to visit the library often. What took me there was basically to look at the papers.  It was a habit I had formed since I was a baby. My daddy now late used to buy newspapers and I was fond of perusing them. Another thing I loved was listening to the news, either the 7 pm Kiswahili news or the 9 pm bulletin. I got amused mostly by the current affairs especially when I grew older and could understand what was going on.  I can remember vividly when I was in primary school, telling my dad of the new people who had been appointed by the President in the cabinet. It was exciting. I was into politics and mostly Kenyan politics.  So going back a little bit into my high school days, there the newspaper was pinned on the notice board. Of course, high sch...

Benefits of Technology In Current Affairs

Image
Since my childhood, I have loved being on the know. I am just into what is going on and in specific, the political side of current affairs. I used to get to know the names of ministers in my country’s cabinet when I was young and name them one by one to my dad. What motivated me the more was the excitement it brought to my family. They enjoyed seeing me love news. Every time it hit 7 pm or 9 pm, I would hardly miss the news on Television. That has grown in me and up to now, I just cannot live without knowing what is going on in the news locally and internationally as well. When I grew up there were no smartphones, hence I had to rely on the traditional media. For me, it was mostly Television and newspapers. My dad was a lover of newspapers and I would peruse through them in the evening when he got home. This love for current affairs and more so, Kenyan politics heightened when I got into campus. Well, surprisingly I studied mass communication. Since my first year in college...

Lessons Learnt During The Covid-19 Season

Image
When Covid-19 hit Kenya in March 2020, it seemed like a disease like any other. I remember going out of the house and getting to the shop without a mask. Then people tell you, “Utashikwa wewe”, so because I didn’t wanna get arrested, I had to dash back to the house to get a mask and then go back to the shopping center. Then I wore I mask because that a rule, one could not access facilities without a mask. Things have since changed; we are in 2021. One thing on my shopping list is a pack of disposable masks. I just want to have masks with me. As for the sanitizer, well I got a huge bottle from the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) because I was working as an Intern at parastatal when Corona hit Kenya. The package also came with a box of gloves, as for the sanitizer I use when out of the house, so far I have bought two bottles and thanks to my toilet spray, I get free 50 ml sanitizer. Well, life has not been easy. Come October 2020, my internship period came to a close and I had t...
